Piedmont Farmers’ Market, Inc. is a 501-(3)C non-profit corporation owned and operated by a Board of Directors that is nominated from the slate of market members to serve 3 year terms. The market was created to serve the community by providing locally grown, fresh, high-quality produce and products, and to provide an economic outlet for local farmers, producers, and artisans in Cabarrus and surrounding counties of North Carolina’s piedmont. Come meet the grower!
Some of our vendors are 6th generation farmers!
Cabarrus County Farmers Market, Inc., later named Piedmont Farmers’ Market, Inc. officially opened for business as a non-profit organization on August 4, 1984 in the parking lot of the Cabarrus Fairgrounds at the corner of Union Cemetery and Cabarrus Avenue-West, Concord after several years of collaboration by various representatives in county and state government, Farm Bureau, Cabarrus County Extension Service, local farm producers and interested patrons. The market was first opened on Saturdays, 7:00 a.m.-noon and Tuesdays, Noon until sold out.
On July 27, 1985, a site had been acquired through donations and grants, designated for ownership to and operated by the volunteer Board of Directors of the market and there forth known as Piedmont Farmers’ Market, Inc. The purpose of the market was in part to encourage, promote and develop all phases of the fruit and vegetable industry. The market was open at that time on Tuesdays through Saturdays, 7:30 a.m.-Noon.
As demand for local food continues to rise, Piedmont Farmers Market strives to provide locations more convenient to our customers. In doing so they meet another of their goals; to provide more opportunities for farmers and local food producers to sell their products directly to the public.
