Token Program

The Token Program is a joint effort of the
USDA and Leaflight.

Many of our vendors participate in the Token
program at the market.  This program
enables the market to accept debit cards,
credit cards, and EBT cards.  Further it
lessens the cost of purchasing and
maintaining card swiping machines and all
that is entailed to the individual vendors.

How it works
A customer comes to the front desk at the
market and swipes their card.  Tokens are
issued in lieu of cash.

There are five dollar tokens which represent
debit and credit card purchases and are
treated as regular cash.  Currency may be
given for change.  ONE DOLLAR TOKENS
MAY
NOT BE GIVEN AS CHANGE FOR A
FIVE DOLLAR TOKEN.  For every five dollar
token a vendor turns in they are charged
$00.19, which is less than 4%.

There are one dollar tokens which represent
EBT card purchases.  CURRENCY MAY NOT
BE GIVEN AS CHANGE.  ONE DOLLAR
TOKENS MAY ONLY BE USED FOR
PURCHASES OF FOOD.  There is no
charge to the vendor for turning in one dollar
tokens.

At the end of the SATURDAY market each
individual vendor turns in their tokens at the
front desk.  Your information is submitted to
Leaflight who then directly deposits your
funds in your bank account.

IF YOU INTEND TO ACCEPT TOKENS YOU
MUST FIRST BE REGISTERED WITH
LEAFLIGHT.  You may not use tokens to
purchase items from other vendors.

We will not be accepting any new
participants for the token program until 2012.

FMNP

Also know as the Farmers Market Nutrition
Program, this program is administered by the
NC Department of Health and Human
Services and the North Carolina Department
of Agriculture.  DHHS issues vouchers in the
amount of $4.00 that may be accepted by
registered farmers for FRUITS AND
VEGETABLE only.

How it works.  Upon registration and
acceptance, the NCDA issues a stamp to the
farmer.  A customer brings their vouchers to
the market and purchases approved
products from a registered vendor. At the
end of the SATURDAY market, the vendor
brings their accumulated vouchers to the
front desk and they are stamped with the
market's stamp by the Market Manager or
her representative.  The farmer then stamps
the voucher with their own stamp in the
appropriate box and deposits the vouchers
in their bank account much as they would a
personal check.  There is no charge to the
farmer to participate in the FMNP.

We will not be accepting any new
participants in the FMNP until 2012.
